What Its like to Be Chosen as a Student Ambassador!
One day, you walk outside to get the mail not thinking that anything out of the ordinary could happen, when you find an odd envelope addressed to you. When you open it up and read whats inside, you learn that you have been chosen as a student ambassador! Of course, you're probably thinking, okay, well what really is that? This is exactly what happened to Casey Tiller not too long ago.
Every year, many students across the United States are chosen as student ambassadors. Instead of looking at just grades, the administrators of the student ambassador's program look at the overall person. The process is tough because there are so many students that would be perfect for the position.
When you are chosen as a student ambassador, you will be asked to attend a meeting, somewhere near your town, so that you can be more informed on what will be expected of you. At the informational meeting, student ambassadors learn about where they will have the chance to go, what they will learn by doing so and many other helpful attributes to being a student ambassador.
This program gives students an opportunity to have an experience that many people never have the chance to take. When traveling to the different countries, the student ambassadors will learn different things, meet new people and just simply have a great time. This program has been so successful over the years, and it is so wonderful that students are getting the chance to have this experience.
For the year of 2004, all students who participate in the student ambassador program will go to France, Italy and Spain this summer. They will earn high school credit and definitely have the best experience of their lives! Of course, there is one draw back. Casey must raise over $5,000 in order to go on the trip, and although most people would give up right when they hear how much the cost is, Casey has taken it upon herself to go to local businesses and ask for sponsors. Some things that student ambassadors can look forward to are:
- Experiencing adventure in the real world! They get the chance to feed dolphins, hike the Alps, ride a camel, swim the Great Barrier Reef, take a Tuscan cooking lesson, lounge at the beach on the Riviera, and explore the Pyramids.
- Staying with a family in another country and visiting their school.
- Meeting with leading officials at the House of Parliament, Red Cross, NATO, or the United Nations.
- Learning about international careers.
- Earning high school or university credit.
- Winning awards!
